Running isn’t just a fitness trend any more—it’s become a global movement! Whether you're aiming for your first 5K or dreaming about that marathon, running offers way more benefits than you might think. Let’s break down why running has become so popular and why now's the perfect time to join craze.
1. Running Boosts Your Mental Health
Running does more than build endurance and help you lose weight—it’s like therapy on the go! People all over are running their way to better mental health. This is exactly what got me into running Ultra Marathons back in 2021. It’s proven that aerobic exercise releases feel-good endorphins like dopamine, which help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Plus, there’s something super calming about the rhythm of your footsteps that brings mental clarity. A good run has had the power to drag me out of some of the darkest place and allowed me to continue on with everyday life. It can be like moving meditation!
2. It's So Simple, Anyone Can Do It
Forget the fancy gym memberships or high-tech gadgets. Running for beginners, at its core, is as simple as it gets. All you need is a pair of sneakers and some space, whether you're in the city, on a trail, or just running around the block. The beauty is—you can start right now! Before you tell me that you aren't a runner or you can't run because of XYZ, let me remind you that running for mental and physical health isn't a race. Simply getting out the door and moving is the name of the game. You can focus on pace and distance later but for now just start moving, the rest will come.
3. Running is Social (Yes, Really!)

Thanks to running apps like Strava, Social Media, and local running clubs popping up everywhere, runners are more connected than ever. There’s something about social running that makes it way more fun and helps keep you accountable. Plus, the themed races and fun runs make it more of a social event than a workout. It’s like a party for people who actually care about their bodies! I have yet to join a group, run club, or race where people aren't supportive and motivating each other. I would love for everyone to follow me on Strava or Social Media when you start your running journey! It's totally free and I would love to support you!
4. Running Becomes a Lifestyle

For many, running is more than just exercise—it’s a whole lifestyle. My family and I started running together in 2021 and since then we have traveled all over the country running and joining races together for fun. My wife, Rikki, and I are running races together nearly every month and our daughter Bre recently just finished her first 1 mile race ever! It’s about setting goals, smashing personal records, and constantly challenging yourself. Whether it’s training for a marathon or just running a little faster than last time, that constant progression keeps it exciting.
5. Health Benefits Galore!
Running isn’t just great for your heart; it helps with weight loss, builds muscle tone, and even boosts your immune system. Running regularly can improve cardiovascular health and even support joint health (when done with the right shoes and technique). It’s like a full-body workout in motion, and when done with friends it doesn't even feel like a workout.
6. And It's Just Plain Fun
Runners always talk about the “runner’s high”—that euphoric feeling you get after a good run. I always thought runners who talked about "the high" were crazy and out of their minds until I felt it for myself. It's real, and it’s addictive in the best way! Running also lets you explore new places, catch up on your favorite podcasts, and enjoy the fresh air. Plus, the pride you feel when you finish a run or a cross a finish line? Unbeatable.
