Beyond The Run: Episode 2 | Track Workout + Run Club
Hey friends,
Welcome back to episode two of my world record training blog series! I’m so glad you’re here, sharing this journey with Rikki and me as we tackle a full day of training together.
We started the day at the gym, easing into mobility work and warming up our bodies for what was ahead. Then, we hopped on our bikes and headed to the track for a speed workout — and let me tell you, today’s session was a wild ride.
It was the first really warm day in Indiana this year, and honestly, I felt every bit of it. Add to that the lingering soreness from doing Murph the day before, and my legs were screaming “slow down.” They felt heavy, sluggish, and it was tough to find that smooth rhythm I usually crave. The pace was fast — way faster than my typical endurance runs. Running 400m repeats at a 5:30 mile pace isn’t something I throw into my workouts often, but we powered through it. No excuses. Rikki was a rockstar as always — she biked alongside me, filming some epic footage for episode two of our YouTube vlog. If you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s the link — it means the world to us.
After that workout, we cruised back home on our bikes, fueled up with some dinner, and then headed off to run club in Fort Wayne. We’ve been loving the community there — it’s the Three Rivers Running Club, and they meet every Wednesday at 5:45 PM at their store.
There’s a group for walkers covering a couple of miles, and another for runners hitting around 6 miles. The vibe is friendly and welcoming — perfect for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. If you’re ever around Fort Wayne, you’ve got to come check it out. Here’s their Run Club link.
Tonight, we showed up just in time for warm-ups and then set off on a 5K run at about an 8:30 pace. It was that sweet spot — fast enough to feel like training, but easy enough to chat. There were about 45 to 50 people, which felt like the perfect crowd for good energy and community.

The best part? We got invited to join a four-hour relay race with some friends from the club. Honestly, it caught me off guard — Rikki and I feel like outsiders most of the time and rarely get invited to do things, so being asked to compete on a team in a competitive relay was such an honor. It reminded me that sometimes, when you show up and push yourself, opportunities come knocking. The race is a four-hour baton relay where each of us runs one mile at a time — speed will be everything.
So, the next few weeks are going to be about dialing in speed training while I keep building endurance for my big summer goal: the “Lap the Lake” 14 Miles open water swim around Lake Wawasee.
Through all of this — the highs, the struggles, the surprises — I want to say thank you. To everyone reading these blogs, watching the videos, signing up for coaching, and reaching out on social media: your support means the world to Rikki and me.
We’ve poured so much heart into building this brand and sharing our journey in all these different ways, but the blog will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where it all began.
Please, don’t be a stranger. Send us a message, write us a letter (we will write you back!), find us on social — whatever feels right. We’d love to hear your story, your struggles, and your wins.
