ABOUT THE BOOK

Beyond the Buoy is a raw, immersive memoir that invites readers into the five-month journey leading up to Jace’s 17-mile swim around Lake Wawasee — a challenge no one had ever completed before.

The book explores the training, the fear, the doubt, the emotional breaking points, and the breakthroughs that carried him around the shoreline. It is a story about depression, resilience, and choosing to fight for the life you want, one stroke at a time.

Written in a gritty and vulnerable narrative style, Beyond the Buoy makes readers feel as if they are right there in the kayak, witnessing every moment of the journey.

  • Jace Morgan is an ultra-endurance athlete, coach, and storyteller from Northern Indiana whose journey has been shaped by perseverance, grit, and a lifelong connection to Lake Wawasee. After battling years of depression, anxiety, and the pressure of trying to hold his life together in silence, Jace rebuilt himself through movement, discipline, and the daily fight to become someone he was proud of.

In September 2025, he became the first person in history to swim the full shoreline of Lake Wawasee — a 17-mile endurance swim known today as Lap the Lake. The experience transformed his life and inspired the creation of Beyond the Buoy, a raw, vulnerable memoir that pulls readers into the physical and emotional journey behind the accomplishment.

Jace uses his story to help others break through the dark places in their own lives. Whether it's through running, swimming, coaching, or storytelling, his mission is to show people that no matter where you start, it's never too late to choose a different direction.

Beyond the Buoy is his first published book and the foundation of a larger movement dedicated to mental health, resilience, and the belief that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they refuse to quit.
